Moving from willpower to workflow

The Muse Letter: Issue 6

Hi Reader,

In 2026, 'trying harder' is no longer a strategy. It's a leak in your sustainable momentum.

Welcome back to The Muse Letter, a weekly newsletter for ambitious people building intentional momentum without burning out.

This is a space to think clearly about work, ambition, and consistency without glorifying hustle culture.

This week, we're covering Choosing Systems That Work Over System Overload.

In this issue, we're exploring:

  • The willpower myth
  • The individual vs the architect: building infrastructure
  • Identifying 'system overload' and overcoming it

Let's see where this letter takes us.

Choosing Systems That Work Over System Overload

We've all been there. It takes a little bit more effort to get out of bed that morning, you procrastinate simple tasks, and feel completely unmotivated to get anything done. Then the guilt hits because, "Why can't I just get it together?"

You spiral into questioning your self-worth since you're not being productive, or even mislabel yourself as lazy. This is where the fine line between giving yourself grace and laziness comes into play. Read issue 4 of The Muse Letter for more on that.

Most people fail because they treat achievement as a test of character. They think that if they can't hustle themselves out of a slump, they're lazy. It's so important to realize how false that is.

In 2026, 'trying harder' is not a strategy. It's a leak in sustainable momentum.

Motivation and willpower can only carry you so far, but systems are infinite and sustainable.

If you're always performing at 100% capacity, it's inevitable that you're going to hit a wall. That's why it's important to become an architect of your life. Architects avoid working harder when they can work smarter by building systems.

You need to build 'infrastructure' for your own ambition.

Why all the emphasis on systems? Because not having them is more expensive than you think. Recall our '23-minute tax on context switching' in issue 5 of The Muse Letter... You lose productivity when you get distracted and, oftentimes, that gets in the way of completion. No completion means no progress, and no progress leads to not achieving your goals. Context switching is part of overloading your mental operation system with endless to-dos that don't align with each other or any particular mission, leaving you at 20% completion across multiple tasks.

Mental overload is often brought on by the feeling of having endless tasks to do with no progress in sight. This often leads to burnout and giving up altogether because nothing feels like it'll move the needle. Hence, the importance of the 'Math of Doing Less' as mentioned in issue 3.

But how can we build that infrastructure? I'll give a practical explanation.

One of my hurdles is that I’m a 'lazy' texter, not ideal for a creator whose growth depends on engagement. Instead of trying to force myself to 'be better' (willpower), I built a bridge (a system). By implementing ManyChat, I automated my DMs and resource delivery. It didn't just save time; it actually built the community reading this letter right now. I stopped fighting my nature and started building around it.

Note: this is not a sponsored post or ad. The ManyChat link does include an affiliate link with a 30% discount for you that results in commission for me if you make a purchase.

Not all of the changes I'm making to the way I work include adding software to my workflow, but also include changing the goals I make for myself daily, the attitude I work with, and more.

I've been codifying my internal workflows into a repeatable process: The Intentional Momentum Framework. I can't wait to share more about it with you all!

It's not about just creating another 'to-do list strategy' or fulfilling random productivity hacks, but it's a blueprint designed to replace 'willpower' with a system that protects your energy and ensures consistency.

Stay tuned to this newsletter for its release.
